Dance Goes Viral

Get this: Videos with the #dance hashtag on Tik Tok have gotten more than 176 billion views (that's billion with a "b"). On YouTube, the #2 watched video of all time is The Baby Shark Dance, and videos of flash mobs performing Michael Jackson's iconic Thriller choreography routinely get millions of views. Even in the gaming industry, Fortnite dances have taken the world by storm. (Fortnite dances!) Online or off, people everywhere—even those who would say they are terrible dancers—have grabbed their shoes, turned up the volume, and joined family and friends in the dance frenzy. Now it’s time to grab your shoes as we discover how dance is transforming pop culture today.

DAY 4

We’ve learned that the term “viral video” didn’t come around until 2009 but different dances have been popular throughout time! Watch the Evolution of Dance by Twist and Pulse and see how dancing has evolved from 1920 to the 2000’s.

06

Why Humans Love Dance Videos

Turns out it's not just the catchy music. "Mirror neurons" in our brains make humans naturally inclined to imitate dance moves.

07

The Power of a Good Beat

Create Your Viral Dance Move

YouTube thumbnail

Now that you've seen few examples of dance moves that have people everywhere jumping to their feet, it's time to create your own. Start by watching this video for inspiration and some great how-to ideas, then put on a song you love, pick a section, and start choreographing (the fancy word for making up a dance).

Take your time and repeat your move until you've really got it down. When you're ready, consider recording your dance move on video. Don't forget to name it!

Share your dance! We'd love to see it. Ask a parent to email a video to us or share it on Instagram or Twitter by tagging @CampKinda.

Stretch It Out

YouTube thumbnail

Dancers have to be flexible since they use so many muscles to bring their moves to life. Here is a basic stretching routine that you should do each day this week so that you stay healthy and strong. It's also a great way to relax and cool down after you've worked up a sweat.

02
